Are you Tough Enough to Wear Pink?

This little kid is!!!!! Check him out!!!!

So the other night Matt and I went to the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo. I was invited as a breast cancer survivor and Matt as my "guest", to enjoy a nice meal, a presentation, and a fun rodeo. Boy did we have fun!!! The theme of the evening was...Are you tough enough to wear pink? Every person that wore pink would have $1 donated to breast cancer research. So TONS of people wore pink! And there were tons of tough people! Check out these photos....

I'm not sure how these cowboys are able to subject themselves to the cruel and unusual punishment of a wild bucking horse or bull, but it sure makes for some great entertainment! They are DEFINITELY tough enough to wear whatever color they feel like!!!
Matt and I haven't been to a rodeo in a while, and the last one we went to was pretty boring. I think it was in the Delta center or something and we didn't have great seats and couldn't see very well. The Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo is the best rodeo I've ever seen! It was so entertaining and fun! Part of the reason was this great clown....he was SOOOO funny! He kept the crowd laughing for 3 hours!!! These pics are of the clown doing some amazing things with his horse. It's UNBELIEVABLE how he can get his horse to do this....But before all of that rodeo fun started, a little presentation was done to honor a few breast cancer survivors. Just before the national anthem was sung the announcer came on the loud speaker...

Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you are tough enough to wear pink? You've seen some pretty brave cowboys, and they are pretty tough. But right now walking into the stadium are some really tough women. These women are cancer survivors and they ARE TOUGH ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK!

And then our names were flashed up on the Jumbo Screen.

Then a couple of breast cancer survivors walked out and sang the National Anthem.

OK people...if that doesn't bring tears...something is wrong with you. I was crying like a baby!! Even with an entire stadium of people staring at me!

(I'm in the middle in the green shorts) In the pictures below, I'm in the middle and my great friend Ginny is on the far left...she has a pink bandana tied around her leg. (she's 3rd from the end)

I met some pretty AMAZING women who are currently undergoing their battle with breast cancer. And I can definitely speak for them in saying they are some of the toughest women I know!!

So thanks to my awesome hubby for taking such great pictures. And for spending the evening with me. Thanks babe! You're awesome! I can say...we'll probably be back to the rodeo next year...

The Great Outdoors!!!

The Annual Gadd Family Camping Trip 2008

So each year we like to take the family up to the mountains camping. Last year we had a little trouble. We got all ready to go and 2 days before, Ethan got sick. Well he got better in 2 days so we decided to go. In the middle of our first night, I got sick; spent most of the day in bed and finally had Matt drive me home. He stayed up camping with Spencer and Ethan only to have Spencer get sick that night. So they all came home.

After this nightmare of an experience, we were very nervous to try camping again. The rule had to be no one was sick 7 days prior to the day we leave. I even put off food shopping until the last minute with anticipation that someone would get sick. Well, no one did! HOORAY!

So we were able to spend 4 glorious days in the Utah wilderness at Spruces Campground. It was a great week. Here are just a few of the fun highlights...

This is our 1987 HiLo trailer. We are quit a sight pulling this baby with our Honda Odyssey Minivan. I told Matt most people that see us are only slowing down to stare because they are jealous, not because we look weird.
As part of our camping tradition, we always try to do some hiking. This year would be a little on the light side, since Sadie is too heavy to sit in the backpack, she would have to walk herself. And hiking with a two-year-old is, well, slow. We decided to try a new trail... the Butler Fork trail. It did not disappoint. It was a beautiful canyon with a small trail that paralleled a small creek. The entire trail was very picturesque.
Ethan is a great hiker. He practically jogs up the trail! He's always picking up rocks and throwing them in the water whenever he gets a chance.
Spencer loves to be the leader. This year he was given the responsibility of wearing the snack and water pack. He did a great job and practically skipped up the steep trail. He is a natural born hiker. He always has to have his walking stick. The funny thing is, he uses the stick to wack the leaves of the bushes he walks by.
Here we stopped for a little water break. Sadie, bless her heart, liked to stop a lot. Most of the time it was to pick up a stick or pick a flower.
A little waze up the trail we came upon the most beautiful flower field. The trail cut through the center of it. It sort of reminded me of the wizard of oz and the field of flowers. It was so beautiful. Sadie loved looking at and picking lots of flowers. Ethan even picked a couple and brought them to me saying, "these are for you Mom." What a little cutie.

In the middle of the trail we came across a huge flock of butter flies. It was awesome to see so many varieties and colors. They were just flying all over and sitting on the ground. If you click on the picture below you can see a close up of the butterflies. There were hundreds of them!

After an hour and a half Sadie had had enough, so we started back down the trail. I couldn't resist these cute pictures of Matt carrying Sadie on his shoulders and the boys out it front. It was a beautiful hike.

Matt and I always ask each other why we go to the same campground each year. We always talk about going somewhere else. But then we get up there and realize why we like it so much...it's so beautiful. And not too far from home. All of these next pictures were taken in the campground.

One of the nights we invited all of Matt's family up to roast hot dogs and smores. We had lots of fun laughing and visiting with everyone.

It was also Matt's birthday. The kids and I made a fun little candy bar card for him and then the group sang Happy Birthday. I love you babe! Happy Birthday!!!

MORE HIKING.....

A camping trip to Spruces wouldn't be complete without a hike to the famous Donut Falls. It's a tradition! The hike isn't very hard and the waterfall is always really pretty. This year the water was so high, it was very difficult to cross the river near the falls. So Matt took the boys across, (well, the boys waded through) the river, while Sadie and I hung out and took pictures of the falls.

After Donut Falls we headed up to Silver Lake. Another Spruces camping tradition. It doesn't matter how many times I've been there or how many pictures I've taken, (100's) it's beauty is still breath taking. The peacefulness of the lake combined with the surrounding mountain vistas..ahhh, what a delicious sight!

So I guess our trip is filled with traditions...another big tradition is the large squirrels and chipmunks that hang out at camp. Some of these squirrels are so large we call them "potguts". They get fat off of all the food humans leave out, and they are very brave about getting their food! These are a few of the shots that me and the kids were able to capture as we sat at our campsite waiting and watching for them to come out. We could hear them squealing to each other...I wonder what they were saying?

Here are the kids just hanging out at camp. They had so much fun running around, finding cool rocks, cool sticks and pine cones.

On the last day, some people next to our camp came over and told us there was a moose close by...they weren't kidding. A huge moose wandered it's way around the outskirts of our site. It hung out all day long. Here are some of the pictures...We would hike around trying to get a better view of the moose. Matt and Spencer climbed onto this log on the river. They hung out there for a little while just watching the moose eat the grass.

The grand finale....

On the last night we had a big fire and I mean big!! The boys loved putting pine needles on the fire and watch them spark and crackle. The boys kept hunting all around for more pine needles to burn. They loved the fire....

So all in all it was a really fun week. I think my favorite part of the week was just sitting back and watching my family. I realize how much I love them. I'm so blessed to have such a great husband and sweet kids. After a week without TV, Movies, video games, or computers, all you have is each other. And it was perfect.

Gadd's Got Talent...sort of...

So last night we went to my friends surprise party she threw for her husband's 30th birthday....
Yup, it was a really, super fun Luau. My friend Stacey thought of everything. She had every little detail planned. It was perfect. We had a lot of fun and discovered we have some interesting talents we didn't know we had!

Sadie is really great at kicking the other kids off the swings so she can have a turn. She somehow convinces all of them that it is her turn. Either it's her sweet charm or she just screams, either way...that's talent!

So Stacey got a limbo pole out and got the crowd to play along. The kids really got into it and had some fun. Ethan decided to go for it and did a great job. A new talent for Ethan!

Stacey and Matt talked me into joining the fun game, and well, I didn't know I could even do it. So here you go.... Erin's new little talent...one of those useless ones!

Spencer was the big surprise of the night! There was a hula hoop contest and he won! Now he didn't use the traditional around the waist type hoola hooping... Oh, no...not my boy...he went for around the neck! To my surprise and Matt's, he was really VERY good at it! He keep that hoop spinning around his neck for quite a while! What a talented kid I tell ya...
Spencer's prize was this nifty snorkel set. And of course he's his mother's child...couldn't wait to get home to try out the new set!

So we had a really great time, thanks Stacey for all your hard work, and to Stacey's husband, Happy Birthday. Thank you for allowing the Gadd family to discover unknown talents!

Aloha!

Now you're it!!! Remember when...

I don't usually play along with tags...mostly because they feel like a homework assignment or something to me, and I'm a big-time procrastinator! By the time I get around to the tag, the time has passed. This one, however, requires work and thinking on YOUR part!

So here's the deal...

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you (and if this isn't on there...I'll assume you're a procrastinator like me and will check back later!)

So now let's have some fun!!! This otta be good....

Happy 4th of July!!!!!

Ok. So isn't my nephew Brayden just adorable? He is the perfect poster child for this 4th of July fun filled day..... My family came over for an old fashioned 4th of July BBQ.

It all started with water, lots and lots of water. Sadie could not get enough of the hose, the water guns, the trampoline and yes, more water. She loved wearing her new "py appol" swimsuit. I could barely get her to take it off that night to go to bed!
But doesn't she look adorable?? And no diaper!! Yay! For the past week Sadie has been going on the potty 75% of the time. There is still room for improvement, but Mommy is very, very proud! Sadie also LOVED playing with her little cousin McKenzee. The two of them went everywhere together and loved playing more "girlie" things. Later, they were into the shoes and purses, of course!
While the little girls did their thing, the boys got into the water BIG! Water guns, hoses, anything you could arm yourself with! And Uncle Cory was a serious threat! Wouldn't you be afraid of a 6'5" guy running at your with a super soaker? Spencer, Ethan, and their cousin Kelton enjoyed running from Cory and Matt. I'm not sure who won, but when it was all over, no one was dry!!!
Meanwhile, back inside, the rest of us girls were having fun with the little ones and giggling and being silly. Kenzee and Sadie continued to be attached at the hip and played "house" in the little kitchen. They are both learning about going on the potty and the funniest thing happened. I took Sadie to the potty and left to the other room to grab some shorts for her and when I came back, little Kenzee was helping Sadie wipe! The little conversation they were having was priceless. If only there was time for a video camera. Kenzee saying, "Ok Sadie, you all done?" Sadie replying "Yeah, I all done, I go potty like a big girl." The two of them together were hilarious!!! Kenzee got worn out and needed a little cuddle time with her Dad (Nate). Aren't they sweet? And Brittany and Danielle are the true camera posers! Grandma couldn't get enough of baby Brayden either...well, no one could...what a cutie!
Later in the evening we went outside for a fireworks extravaganza!!! You would not believe the amount of fireworks being launched! Every neighbor up and down our street had their own displays going and then some neighbors were brave and launched their big illegal fireworks. It was awesome! Matt and I managed to climb up on the roof for an outstanding view. We could see fireworks going off all across the valley. We paused and had one of those " AAWWWE CUTE" moments; sealed it with a kiss, and then it was back to the group.

The 4th of July was a fun one this year. Hope to have many more fun ones like this!!!
