In February 1996 I met the love of my life, and later that year married him. One of the many things we talked about was the importance of cherishing family memories. Matt and I both knew we LOVE to travel. So in our life we've made that a priority over many other ways we could spend our money.
To give you an idea, I have no curtains in my house; still need 1 side of fence to completely fence the yard; no water softener; no garage door opener on one of the garage doors, a VERY outdated light fixture in my front room, an oven that won't cook a turkey all the way through, and a microwave with a handle falling off that takes twice as long to cook the food. The list is huge, but that's ok! Our priorities were further affirmed when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. We really don't know how much time we will have here on earth, so we need to make each moment count. We love the memories we create by traveling to new places and spending quality time with each other.
Well, having said that, we finally crossed a much needed item off the list of household items. I have been sleeping on the same mattress since 1988. And it wasn't even new in 1988! It was a sort of wedding gift when we got married and I really don't remember sleeping on anything else.
So just this past month, we spent an afternoon in RC Willey and picked out a new one. It's not the most expensive one...(they really can rip you off!! $9,000 for a mattress doesn't seem right) but nevertheless, found one. Well, last Saturday it was delivered along with the bedroom set we were pressured into buying. (just kidding, I wanted the set. I really wanted all my furniture to match at least once in my lifetime) So not only have I been sleeping on a brand new mattress...(for the first time in my life) but it's even King size!!! I am in heaven!! This week I have never slept better. In fact, I don't want to leave my bed! I try to find reasons why I need to stay in my room. I really haven't got much done this week! But boy I feel great! I don't wake up with neck aches and back aches. It's fabulous!
So this year, we're scaling back our traveling just a bit, so we can sleep better at night. :) Instead of a big Hawaii trip, we're taking a little Mexican Riviera cruise. It will be a nice to enjoy the comforts that a cruise can provide. I'm looking forward to the R and R the end of this month. But in the mean time..if you need me...you know where I'll be!!

I love your new bedroom set. And I love your blog about priorities. You and Matt are so wise.
Sure love you all,
mom G.
I wish my scaling back was like yours...a Mexican Riviera Cruise? I'm jealous! I LOVE the bedroom set...maybe I should come take a nap at YOUR house. Just Kidding. Love ya!
I love the pictures and stories, but I am completely jealous of the adventures you had. I loved hearing about the interactions you had with the tour guides...especially the harness guy! So funny! So would you rather have a mule or a Paso Fino? Ha! Never mind, I think I know the answer. I'll have to see more pictures sometime :)
